Chamber III · Relational coherence

Heart
— a longform reading.

Relational coherence — the rhythm that synchronises devotion and decision.

~ 2 minute read

The heart is not metaphor only. It is a generator with its own intelligence, a rhythm-keeper whose field is measurable by every nervous system within a few feet of it. When the heart is coherent, it teaches every other system in the body — and every other person in the room — what coherence sounds like.

Leadership, at its quietest, is the willingness to take the next hard question to the heart before taking it to the mind. Not because the mind is wrong, but because the heart is faster, and it can feel what is true before the mind has had time to argue with it.

This chamber is tended by small, almost invisible acts: heart-focused breathing, a named appreciation each morning, a daily moment of asking — and then waiting — for what wants to be said.

[ Reflection prompts ]

  • What relationship is asking for greater presence than I have been giving?
  • What is the heart of the next hard decision — and what is only the surface of it?
  • Whom have I not yet thanked, by name, in the language they understand?
